Today (Saturday, March 29, 2025) marks 5 weeks since Grace was born and she is officially 29 weeks old 🎉 She has also finally reached the minimum goal weight of 800 grams, which was necessary for her brain surgery. So some major milestones checked off at the end of this week!
Thankfully she has had an uneventful week, after the weekend we had. A huge blessing! God seemed to know all 3 of us needed some time to rest and recuperate, both mentally and physically.
Shortly after her surgery she was weaned off of all the medication she had been placed on, besides her antibiotics. And she has now come off of all pain medication, this was done within 7 days so that she wouldn't go into withdrawal.
This past Thursday Grace underwent her third fontanel tap, which is where the neurosurgeon removes fluid from the ventricles via a needle. This procedure is not something that SickKids practices anymore as the have more modern and updates procedures now, however, due to the Meningitis infection she is fighting they cannot proceed with the surgery until it is cleared and she has finished her antibiotics. Grace is having 3 head ultrasounds a weeks to monitor ventricular fluid levels, as well as daily head measurements.
Unfortunately the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) from her head continues to come back positive for bacteria and so the doctors want to make sure it's not in her blood and that there isn't somewhere else in her body. In order to rule this out they took some blood, as well as did an echogram on her heart and an MRI on her brain. We have to wait 48 hours to get the results back from these things.
Grace now also has a colostomy bag on her stoma, which has started to produce output which is great! Overall we have seen huge improvements in Grace since last weekend, which we are so thankful for!
I'm not sure what Grace's future holds but I trust in the one who holds her future. God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!
